Longing

A cold sweat broke on his brow,

bloodshot eyes swiveling to find her.

Even the chandelier hung without any movement that night.

A wrath or an upcoming storm, nobody knew,

so he hurried back to his chambers, for the war was over.

Something however stayed back,

a shadow and some pain.

A shadow he could never catch,

and pain that will never die.

What was he longing for?

How unfortunate and painful it is to lose someone that meant the world to you. At one moment you are out there, searching for their existence and in the other you bring them alive in the memories. Did they ever truly leave?
