I have come across many books but this book churned out my emotions to a great extent.

The Beekeeper of Aleppo, by Christy Lefteri, is a powerful and heart-wrenching novel that explores the experiences of refugees as they flee the devastating civil war in Syria. The story follows Nuri and his wife Afra, a beekeeper and an artist, respectively, as they make their way from their home in Aleppo to the safety of Europe.
Lefteri does an excellent job of immersing the reader in Nuri and Afra’s world, painting a vivid picture of the destruction and chaos that has engulfed their country. The author’s attention to detail is particularly impressive, as she describes the smells, sounds, and sights of the war-torn landscape with remarkable clarity.
As the couple makes their way through Turkey and Greece, they encounter a series of obstacles and hardships, including treacherous smugglers, crowded refugee camps, and dangerous border crossings. Along the way, they also encounter a host of other refugees, each with their unique story and set of challenges. The character of Mohammed was particularly of interest to me and it broke my heart to realise Nuri’s state of the mind via this character.
Despite the overwhelming hardships that Nuri and Afra face, the novel is ultimately a story of hope and resilience. Lefteri portrays her characters with great empathy and sensitivity, highlighting the humanity and dignity that remains even in the most dire of circumstances.
Overall, The Beekeeper of Aleppo is a beautifully written and deeply moving novel that offers a powerful insight into the experiences of refugees. It is a timely reminder of the urgent need for compassion, understanding, and support for those who are forced to flee their homes in search of safety and security.
I am looking forward to read more by Lefteri. Her writing style is unique as she connects different episodes of the story seamlessly. I always felt that I was in the story while reading through the pages. Such a powerful writer she is.
