You are not in the eighties where people spent their entire life doing the same job. You are neither entitled or enslaved to your boss. Then why do we end up making such huge mistakes in our career? Why is the fear of organization so widespread that you can’t even ask for a kind of job you desire? Half of the people I meet don’t even know why are they stuck in that particular job despite being aware of the fact that they don’t enjoy it. Years pass by and the end comes. What did you learn and what did you achieve? A mere salary for which you did not even have ample hours to splurge. Well, that’s the irony of today’s world. Life is nothing but time left after office, running behind money and your not-so-convincing-organization.
I believe we all should stop committing these mistakes in our career for a better life and of course a better organizational growth:
Stop disbelieving in yourself. There can be nothing more deceptive than having more faith in someone else but you. Once you lose faith in your capabilities and intelligence, you sell yourself to the organization. It is very important to know who you are and what you are capable of. You do not have to end up doing a job that gives you skills which are at a lower end of your capability scale. Working hard is an age old thing. Working harder and smarter is what you need.
Stop getting panicked for being unemployed. It is fine and humanly right to do absolutely no job in an organization, rather than doing something which is not in terms with your future goals. People usually end up taking jobs which for which they have no liking, just because they need a JOB. I would rather say, go for seasoned jobs like working in some cafe rather than ending up in a organization which doesn’t serve your purpose. If you still believe that seasoned jobs are not your cup of tea then try building your skills for the desired job rather than going in an opposite direction to your goals.
Stop listening to everything that your boss says. Boss is not always right. I am sure all the bosses reading this would be either laughing or planning to hit me in the face (including mine). It is okay! Working for an organization does not always mean living a life on their terms. You are as much entitled to freedom of choice as they are. If you think that a particular kind of role assigned to you does not align with your future goals then say it out loud to your higher-ups. Trust me, this is much better than bearing the load of something about which you are not enthusiastic. You can rather request for other kinds of roles that aligns with your goals. You will perform much better in doing things that you like rather than doing something which is not in your interest list. Well, I really could not find any image for this. *still wondering*
Say NO to internal shifting if that degrades your skills. You might not be able to perform well in an organization because of some genuine reasons best known to you. That is okay! We are humans and we all have our troughs and crests. You should learn to say NO to something for which you are not ready and especially those non-value addition jobs that the company throws at non-performers. You can and you should ask for liberation time so that your higher-ups can evaluate you. Prove yourself and stay back rather than preparing excel sheets the entire day. You can also suggest an alternative and be totally honest about it. Pressurizing yourself is really not required to emerge as a successful person. At the maximum, you’ll be thrown out of the job. So what? Will that make you less capable? Of course not. An organization who will value your skill more than your resume will deserve you.
Oh my God, I’m a fresher and I have no rights. Well that’s how organizations which does not have a humanly work environment treat freshers. Being a fresher is often associated with being of no real value until and unless you are from a fancy college. But is that humanly right? No votes from me for this! Not at least in this century anymore. Freshers are no more inexperienced or less experienced. They are fresh from college and would have more recent knowledge than any of your employee. If you are a fresher and have all the knowledge required to perform that specific role then vouch for it. Don’t be afraid to object the non-value additions jobs that come across your way. In the name of experience you cannot be wasting 1 year of your life doing something that won’t be useful in the long run.

I think we all should start living a life and not a career. Don’t be a part of the so-called corporate slavery but find out ways to make “work” a better experience in itself. It is not a necessity or a cardinal rule to stretch yourself in doing something that you do not desire. Put your precious hours in doing something that is of utmost importance to you—things that will bring happiness to you and your family.
It’s high time we all should get back to being humans.
